The role of green roofs system to achieve urban Sustainability

Cities expand and increasing urban population, causing many problems such as environmental pollution, increasing global temperatures and loss of forests and agricultural lands. So issues of urban sustainability are becoming more important. It looks that use of dead space in the roof to create a pleasant atmosphere and the creation of eye-catching facade combined with the nature of man, helping regulate a building’s internal temperature, reduce storm water runoff, and mitigate the urban heat island effect.This paper research resource based on studies and documents of library and published articles in this field. The studies shows Garden roofs in addition to improving the quality of the environment and ecological sustainability, increase social interaction in residential buildings, offer significant economic benefits including self-sufficiency, a longer roof life and heating, cooling energy savings. That will finally lead to sustainable urban development.The approach of this study is scientific- applied research and its research method is descriptive and analytical.
