This paper describes the incineration technology used to safely destroy waste oils. Waste oil with chlorine compounds and toxic metals is generated in polyolefin plants. This research presents the selection and design of a downdraft vertical liquid incinerator with swirl (vortex) burner, specially designed to burn industrial hazardous waste oils. The design and operation of such kinds of incinerators are also different from that for industrial wastes. Because of the chlorine compound in Waste, there is the probability of dioxin production and a spray system is used to cool down the flue gas rapidly to avoid this effect. Combustion temperature was selected enough low to prevent of metal oxides melting as calculated by Cooper method. High swirl intensity (swirl number, S > 0.6) generates an efficient mixing between the reactants (O2 and waste) in the region near the waste outlet and improves flame stabilization also having a strong influence on flame characteristics and pollutant emissions. System is designed for the incineration of 100 kg/h waste.
