Othello: Exclusion or Inclusion in the Universal and Human world

The play Othello works with the dichotomy of good and evil. In this dichotomy it is Iago who is evil rather than Othello. In this dichotomy Othello is the good man. He is theuniversal man. This dichotomy of evil and good is the whole of the play. Shakespeare does indeed insert Othello in the realm of universality and include him in the human world. The play, viewed this way, is not at all racist. The majority of scholarships on the play don’t see this dichotomy and jump to the conclusion that the play is a racist and that Shakespeare is a racist author demoting the black Othello
