چکیده

The growth of textile fiber production mainly depends on the population; and the future of scientific progress is dependent on the cooperation of the broad spectrum of scientificdisciplines. World population is now doubling approximately every 40 years and lifestyle is changing that increases the fiber demands as well as demands for food, energy and resources.Oil and natural gas reserves will not last forever; to cope with these issues, various disciplines including newly emerged sciences such as bio and nanoscience, and the old ones like mathematics, physics and so on have to cooperate to solve the new arising, apparentlyconflicting issues of progress and environmental protections, (green trends or golden targets !). Another driving force of the growth is the application of fibers and textiles in industrial, medical and agricultural sectors. One of the most interesting examples is carbon fibers, whichnow are greatly used in the automotive, airplane constructions and other high tech applications. Replacement of natural fibers with man-made fibers is continuing in these last years because the expansion of natural fibers is constricted by limitations in the arable land needed to supply foodand water, according to Oerlikon’s analysts [1]. To provide a reasonably satisfying response tothe demand of fibers, either natural or its replacement, i.e. manmade ones, the cooperation of different sciences embedded in basic research is fundamentally essential. The correlation between these two, production and citations, will be considered in this lecture.
