Thermal and Mechanical properties investigation of Polysulfide/ Epoxy/ Anhydride ternary systems

Over the years it has been found that a wide variety of materials are capable of affecting cure in polysulfide polymers from metal proxides and other metal oxy- salts duringoxidation reaction to epoxy resins and isocyanates in addition and substitution reactions, respectively [1]. This variety ofcuring agents provides a wide range of applications such as insulated glass, construction, and air craft sealants, dental impression compounds, leather impregnation, and specialcoating. Addition of epoxy to polysulfides enhances mechanical and adhesion properties and reduces curing time[2]. Depends on the ratio of polysulfide to epoxy resin, different mechanical properties can be achieved. Adding small amount of polysulfide can act as both modifier and diluent forepoxy resin. On the other hand, usage of large amounts of polysulfide acts as flexiblizers in flexible epoxy base adhesives and hot melt sealants [3].
