The synthesis of a copolymer containing fluoren and thiophene units is reported. First, 9-H-fluorenone was converted to its 2,7 dibromo compound, via reaction with bromine. It was then polymerized by reaction with a thiophene based dibronic ester using Suzuki cross coupling reaction. Both of monomer and polymer were characterized using FT-IR and NMR spectroscopies. The physical properties of the polymer, including solubility were also investigated. Polymer showed maximum absorption peak at 360-380 nm. The band gap of the polymer obtained using UV-Vis spectroscopy was 2.75 ev.
