Epoxy nanocomposites coatings were synthesized using synthetic hardeners and improved by adding nanoporous graphene (PG). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observationsshoweda suitable dispersion of PG and rough fracture surface in the presence of PG. Only 1wt.% loading of PG caused improvements of 15% and 14% in tensile strength and modulus respectivelywhen an industrial cycloaliphatic polyamine hardener (h1) was used. These results additionally indicate that modified synthetic aromatic polyamine hardener (h2) effectively improvesthe coating toughness, but it reduces tensile strength and modulus in the presence of 1 wt.%of PG. Thus the effect of nanoparticles on mechanical p roperties is not clear and the application determined based on the nanocomposite properties.
