Investigation of the Effect of Various Modifiers on Mechanical Properties of Epoxy-based Adhesives

The effects of micron-size alumina (20, 40 and 60 phr), phenolic resin (30, 50 and 70 phr), Ground rubber tire (5, 10 and 15 phr) and size of this waste particle (100, 300 and 500 μm) on tensile properties of epoxy adhesives were investigated. All experiments were designed using the Taguchi Method. The results show that epoxy adhesives modified with 50 phr of phenolic resin, 60 phr of micron-size alumina, 5 phr of Ground rubber tire with an approximate nominal particle size of 500 μm have the best tensile properties in comparison with the other modified samples and neat epoxy adhesives.
