The Effects of CNT Loadings on the Mechanical Properties of CNT/NR/EPDM Nanocomposites

چکیده

CNT/NR/EPDM nanocomposites were prepared via a traditional mixing method using a two- roll mixer and cured by conventional vulcanization system. The nanocomposites were characterized in respect of their curing characteristics and mechanical properties. The cure characteristic investigations show that the introduction of CNTs into the rubber blend leads to decrease of scorch and cure time. The minimum and maximum torque values of the nanocomposites curing has a rise with respect to the CNTs loading. Tensile strength of NR/EPDM (75/25 w/w) blends containing 0.5 wt% of CNTs show an increase compared to the accordingly NR/EPDM blends. The Moduli of the nanocomposites at 100% and 300% elongations revealed that the CNTs can increase theses parameters with no significant effect on the elongation at break. It was concluded that the CNTs concentration influences the dispersion of the nanotubes and the properties of prepared nanocomposites were controlled by the degree of dispersion of the nanotubes
