چکیده

Semi-active structural control for improving the structure’s performance against the external excitations, mainly wind and earthquake, has received remarkable attention recently. Among different methods of implementing smart control in structures, using MR dampers as energy absorbing devices is the one which commonly used. Choosing an effective number and distribution of dampers in structure is of great importance for achieving desirable design conditions in the case of facing severe external excitations. This paper examines the suitable number and optimal placement of MR dampers in different structures, exposing to Elcentro earthquake considering different Performance Indexes. In order to gain optimal distribution, Genetic Algorithm is used.
