During the past decades, governments in Iran have experienced various political discourses. Thispaper intends to review the impacts of these political discourses on Iranian economy. Theprincipal research question is this: what were the effects of political discourses dominatingtrends of economic development in Iran during the past three decades? The research method iscomparative-historical which specifically focuses on systematic and orderly comparison andanalysis of the developments and trends. The findings of this paper show that political discoursesdominating trends of economic development in Iran, except for some periods, did not haverequired progress and sustainability so that economic indices have experienced many ups anddowns in the past three decades. This lackluster must be attributed to lack of an all-embracingdiscourse in the governments.
