An investigation of the graft copolymerization of chitosan by the mixture of itaconic acid _ methacrylamide

In this study, Chitosan grafts with two monomers of Itaconic acid (IA) and methacrylamide (Mam). Figures of SEM showed the morphology of grafted chitosan is rough and porous surface but in chitosan is smooth and dense surface. FTIR spectra of grafted chitosan display two picks more than chitosan, Two picks are related to acid functional group and amid group that they were grafted onto chitosan. Thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) shows quickly destroyed at a temperature of chitosan 320 ° C and grafted chitosan 350 and 450 ° C . As well as, the destruction of chitosan and grafted chitosan observed at 300 ° C and 280 ° C. X-ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD) shows two sharp diffraction peaks at 2θ = 10° and 20° for chitosan, and for grafted chitosan appeared weak and broad peak centered at 2θ = 15°.
