The two-dimensional, incompressible and laminar time dependant combined natural and magnetic convective heat transfer flow through ethylene glycol based magnetic fluid has been numerically simulated in this paper. The flow takes place in a differentially heated square cavity. The cavity is under the influence of an imposed two dimensional magnetic field which is created by Helmholtz coils. Our objective is to investigate the effect of base fluid on the ferrofluid heat transfer. In this study we will show how base fluid could affect on Nusselt number variation as well as thermo magnetic convection
