Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic human pathogen with the ability of biofilm formation on different food industry abiotic surfaces as well as medical devices. The pistachio green hull, which at present are often considered as a waste agricultural byproduct, has a series of antimicrobial bioactive compounds. The Anti-Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853) activity of pistachio (Kaleghuchi variety) green hull hydro-extract was studied via different assays against the sessile and planktonic forms of the bacteria. The MIC30 and MIC80 values of the extract were determined to be 390.63 and 50000 ppm, respectively. Moreover, agar well diffusion assay of the extract (5 and 10 mg well-1) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed the inhibition zones of 10.75 and 11.47 mm. The extract (50000 ppm) also exhibited 98.4% and 77.67% of inhibition against planktonic growth and biofilm formation of the bacteria respectively. The results obtained indicate that the anti-pseudomonad properties of the pistachio green hull’s hydro-extract against planktonic and to a lesser extent its sessile form, auspicate the promising applications of pistachio green hull, as a cheap and noticeable source of antimicrobial compounds, in medicine and food industry
