Background: Brugada syndrome is a condition that causes a disruption of the heart's normal rhythm. Specifically, this disorder can lead to uncoordinated electrical activity in the heart's lower ventricles, an abnormality called ventricular arrhythmia. Brugada syndrome is named by the Spanish cardiologists Pedro Brugada and Josep Brugada. This syndrome could lead to sudden death by causing ventricular fibrillation (VF) in the heart. It was first reported among survivors of cardiac arrest in 1989[1], but only Brugada brothers distinguished it as a distinctive clinical entity [2]. This review summarizes the current state of knowledge concerning Brugada syndrome associated with sudden cardiac death, and finally proposes a hypothesis regarding a possible origin of this syndrome from the mechanical engineering point of view.
