Acquisition of L2 English Morphology: Priority, Quality and Order of Accuracy in ESL Production

چکیده

The aim of this study was to investigate the acquisition of inflectional morphemes with a view to examining the occurrences as well as the misuse of these morphemes in the English speaking of some Iranian learners of English. Due to review the Brown (3771) the participants who participated in this study were 97 ILI students who are studying English at Iran Language Institute in Tonekabon city, Iran. The data used for the study were collected from group discussion. This study finds out that there was a wide gap in the mastery of the inflectional morphemes by the subjects. On the basis of this finding, certain recommendations being followed in their learning system. Attempting to answer what order grammatical morphemes have among ESL learners follow in morphology learning, this study tried a cross-sectional design with qualitative types of data. The instrument was the speech-data of the sample which was gathered from class-discussion and theories on grammatical morpheme studies. The finding of this study indicates that the subjects have acquired some grammatical morphemes well although not yet accurately. Also they don’t follow the same pattern as Brown (3771) foundations.
