Audiovisual translation as one of the several types of translation needs to be considered in visual aspects of an image in addition to the speaking contents. In the present study, the translation of the expressions of a videogame called civilization will be compared with their original expressions. The aims of this study are 1) investigating the adaptation strategies in Persian translation of civilization videogame, 2) investigating the reasons for adaptation according to skopos theory in Persian translation of civilization videogame and 3) identifying the ideologies that the adaptation strategies based on skopos theory indicate in the society. To this end, a corpus of expressions of a videogame called civilization and their Persian translations have been selected and analyzed. Then, according to Bastin’s (2005) adaptation model, adaptation strategies have been computed. Finally, considering the reasons of adaptation based on skopos theory, the ideologies that the adaptation strategies indicate in the current society of Iran have been identified. The findings of the study reveal that the aim of the adaptation is not only transferring the purpose of the source text (Bastin, 2005), but also regarding synchronization which indicates the ideology of the society and the players toward videogame translation.
