Changing deposition pattern affected by constructed HalehJetty in Nayband Bay and the effect of that on coral reefs

چکیده

Abstract Accretion and erosion around coastal structures is a major problem. In the present study, deposition pattern in vicinity of Haleh Jetty at the southern part of Nayband Bay has been considered. Nayband Bay as a marine national park is a habitant of coral reefs, sea turtles and many other species. Therefore, this area is environmentally sensitive and any changes have dramatic effects on this region. Firstly, the wave, current and sedimentation patterns in Nayband Bay are simulated by numerical modeling. Spectral Wave Model FM (MIKE 21 SW) simulated the growth, decay and transformation of wind-generated waves. After modeling wave, LITDRIFT module calculated hydrodynamic condition and sediment transport budget. Afterwards, LITLINE module was utilized as a coastline evolution model using equation of continuity for sediment. Finally, the effect of coastline evolution on coral reefs was investigated. The results showed that the accretion behind the jetty does not effect on coral reefs; but floating jetty could use to reduce sedimentation.
