چکیده
Background: It is well documented that fetuses exposed to maternal diabetes during pregnancy experience impaired neurological function and behavioral abnormalities. However, little is known about the effects of infantile repeated hyperglycemia on neuronal excitability in infancy or earlychildhood females. This article examined the effects of repeated elevated blood glucose levels on chemoconvulsant Pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) induced generalized seizures in Wistar female adult rats, which remained from infantile hyperglycemia . Methods: Immature female Wistar rats (11 days old) were randomly divided into 2 groups (n=11 for each): hyperglycemic and control. Hyperglycemia was induced by intraperitoneal injections of 2 g/kgdextrose solution, 2 times /day, for two weeks. Control animals received saline solution in the same manner. Blood glucose regularly measured. After that, animals (n=11) were kept to reach to adult. Finally, acute seizure was induced in hyperglycemic and control adult rats, by an intraperitonealinjection of 54 mg/kg PTZ solution and then, severity of convulsions & latency period of tonic clonic generalized seizure onset for each group were recorded .Results: Our results suggest that latent period of generalized seizures occurrence reduced and severity of PTZ induced tonic clonic generalized convulsions increased significantly in experimental females compared to control .Conclusion: These results determined that increased daily blood glucose levels in female immatureinfants induced serious changes in metabolic processes, like formation of free radicals and neurotransmitters and might aggravate epileptic seizures in adult female rats.
