Cr2O3-ZrO2 nanostructure catalysts prepared by sonochemical and sol-gel methods have been tested for thedehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene in the presence of carbon dioxide. Several techniques including XRD, BET andEDX were applied to characterize the physicochemical properties of the as-synthesized materials. Catalytic tests showthat the chromia catalyst synthesized by ultrasonic impregnation method exhibits a good catalytic performance, which ismore active than that sol-gel prepared one. A high Cr species dispersion in the calcined catalyst is crucial for its highcatalytic activity in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane. However, the ethylene yield dramatically declined duringthe reaction time. During the 10 h stability test, ethylene yield gained higher values in the case of sol-gel made catalystcompared to ultrasonic one.
