Effect of solvent type on structure of cellulose acetate membranes

چکیده

Membrane technology has been developed because of several applications on the different fields. Hence, in this work was considered the production of cellulose acetate membranes. The purpose of this study was determined the effect of solvent type and cellulose acetate concentration on the morphology and structure of membranes. So, membranes prepared via phase inversion method that N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) were used as the solvents in different concentrations of cellulose acetate (CA) solutions. Membrane characterization was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that membranes prepared with DMAC as the solvent,have more spongy structure than NMP solvent and it is related to the viscosity of solutions. Also, with increasing base polymer concentration, the structure of membranes changed to more spongy structure.
