Removal of Malachite Green from aqueous solution using conducting polyaniline-halloysite nanocomposites

چکیده

Halloysite is a kaolinite-type aluminosilicate (Al2Si2O5(OH)4 ·nH2O) clay with 1:1 layer ratio, it has a nano/micro tubular structure and it abundantly is found in nature. Due to various characteristics such as nanoscale lumens, high length-to-diameterratio, relatively low hydroxyl group density on the surface, etc., numerous exciting applications have been discovered for this unique, cheap and abundantly deposited clay.Conducting polymers have recently become the object of numerous investigations because of their great potential in device applications, such as transistors sensors, actuators batteries, and so on. Polyaniline (PANI) is one of the most important conducting polymers due to its high conductivity, ease of preparation, good environmental stability and large variety of application such as electrochromic devices, secondary batteries and catalysis and drug delivery.In the current work, aniline was polymerized on the surface of HNTs by chemical polymerization in the various ratios of weight. By this way, HNT/PANI was obtained and the morphology of these nanocomposites were compared with each other by SEM technology, also the XRD, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectrums of these nanocomposites were investigated.Finally, Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) and its conducting nanocomposites were used as nano-adsorbents for removal of the cationic dye of Malachite Green (MG). The adsorption of the dye was studied with batch experiments. The effects of adsorbent dose, initial pH, initial MG concentration and contact time were investigated. The maximum adsorption about 95 percent was achieved in pH=9 for prepared nanocomposites.
