Efficacy of aqueous extracts on Ascochyta blight of Cicer arietinum L.

Investigation was made to elaborate the effectiveness of aqueous extracts of some medicinal plants against Ascochyta rabiei, causal organism of Ascochyta blight of chickpea under controlled condition. Experiment was laid out in R.B.D. with ten replicates. The antifungal activity of the aqueous extracts decreased with decreasing concentration of tested extracts. Aqueous leaf extract of Azadirachta indica and Eucalyptus camaldulensis were found to be the most effective in checking radial growth of tested pathogen in the filter paper disc assay. However, the minimum growth was noticed at 100% concentration of A. indica by 3.20 cm. Effectiveness of all these extracts varied at different dilutions. Undiluted extract of Ricinus communis and Allium sativum exhibited moderate activity against the test pathogen. The least effect was recorded in case of R. communis aqueous extract at all concentrations used.
