Excessive water production causes major economic loss due to decreased oil production, and increased costs of lifting, separation and disposal of large amounts of produced water. There are several processes for water reducing depending to physical properties of oil reservoirs. Water-soluble polymers with a suitable crosslinker have been successfully used to reduce water production in the field. This paper describes the research and development process for formulate a polyacrylamide/Cr (ІІІ) gel polymer system to control water production in one of the Iranian oil reservoir condition. Formulation strategy, laboratory procedure and experimental results will be presented. The effect of various parameters on the
gelation kinetic and gel strength are characterized with Bottle testing method. The typical final formulation as an optimum composition gives remarkable properties in high temperature and high salinity condition.
