چکیده

Sustainable architecture, which in fact is a subset of sustainable designing, is one of the important contemporary movements that is considered to be a logic reaction to the problems and issues of the arena of industry. Like other categories of architecture, sustainable architecture has its own unique rules and principles and generally includes the following three steps: resources conservation, designing for returning to the life cycle, and designing for human, that any of them has in turn its own particular strategies. Studying desert cities of Iran, such as Yazd, Kerman and Kashan, reveals that the anatomical characteristics of the historic and traditional sections of the said cities are in conformity with recent scientific findings to a remarkable degree, and that the stability-oriented thinking is not a new and unprecedented approach. Architecture of these regions is convergent with the stability principles surprisingly. Furthermore, it seems that the said environmental coordination is the result of a prolonged process of repeated tests and mistakes occurredduring the history and in the course of designing and construction of buildings and urban contexts. Considering this fact that Iranian traditional architecture in desert has a strong and rich background of different aspects of stability, studying these characteristics may be in service of planning, designing and popularizing the environment of today’s life. Thus, towards this aim, after studying the climatic and geographical general features of Bam City, valuable instances of architecture of Bam ancient urban context and historic monuments of Bam Citadel as a set which has identity and a long historical record of urban planning in Iran desert region were selected, introduced and analysed, and after investigating and analysing their characteristics and features, proper climatic-local strategies were presented for designing spaces in accordance with today’s new needs and requirements. This research has been carried out by qualitative method, and the tools of collecting data are observations and studying the previous references.
