چکیده مقاله:

Considering the increasing exploitation of oil fields in the Caspian Sea and needs to develop the necessary structures and other industrial instruments in coastal areas and offshore, performingcomprehensive studies to understand the hydrodynamic characteristics, such as flow, wave, seawater level variation, etc, is among the initial and urgent studies to construct these structures. Moreover, specific conditions of this sea such as being a closed lake, too much depth and itsrelated difficulties to access to the bed oil mines and also limited marine transportation and navigation, the Caspian Sea in comparison with the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea has lower study priorities. However, in recent years, with the discovery of groundwater resources, development activities incountries surrounding the Caspian Sea, using its enormous resources and attention to the fact thatthese resources are shared among all the neighboring countries, more work is needed than ever before, with participation of all ministries and organizations related to this demand.Considering this introduction, and attention to the role of Water Research Institute of the Ministry of Energy for one of its determined objectives, which is study and research in the Caspian Sea, has caused the surveying specifications of this lake be programmed. From January 2008 to March 2009, one period of wave and current characteristics near the Amirabad port was measured which in this paper the results of these measurements for introducing the waves’ and currents’ pattern in the shallow water zone near the Amirabad Neka is presented.
