This article presents a fault detection scheme for the case of a broken bar occurrence in a three phase induction Motor. The proposed scheme relies on sensorless estimation of induction motor parameters with Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). The event of broken rotor bars (BRBs) cause asymmetry of the resistance and inductance in rotor phases, which results in asymmetry of the rotating electromagnetic field in the air gap between stator and rotor. The impact of broken rotor bars can be modeled by unbalancing the rotor resistance. The practical results show that broken rotor bars can cause an increase in rotor resistance and oscillation in rotor speed and torque. In this paper, By MATLAB software and sampling from stator currents and voltages and the utilization of the EKF technique, rotor speed and rotor resistance are estimated, for both the healthy and the faulty case. The results show that estimation of induction motor parameters by EKF is a reliable method for indirect broken rotor bars diagnosis in induction motor.
