Antioxidant activity in different parts of Solanum nigrum L. in Golestan province

چکیده

Solanum nigrum L. belongs to Solanaceae family , in which locally called Sag Angur grows as a weed and which has found in many farms and other parts of Golestan province. In many field observation plant parts (leaves, flowers, fruits, stems and roots) were collected in two periods in natural habitats (Ziyarat -790 and Gelin -15m) in March to Novamber 2011, some where with annual average rainfall is 549/1-414/8mm, in loam to silty-clay-loam soil Ec:0/8 -1/1 and pH 7/5-7/5 and ethno pharmacological data’s obtained from rural people .Plant samples dried and were extracted by ethanol solvent, total phenol (TP) and total flavonoid (TF) were determined spectro photo metrically. Antioxidant properties were obtained by three radical scavenging activity methods: reducing power (RP), total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH).Results showed that S.nigrum has been used in traditional medicine of this region as antibacterial, anti infection ,anti spasm, sedative ,astringent, anti nociceptive and wound healing. The leaves of plant with TP content (16.2 mg GAE g-1) and TF content ( 52.9mg QUE g-1)have more secondary metabolites than other parts. Antioxidant activity with (IC50) = 378.5±8.94 μg/ml in DPPH , 159.1±4.09 μg/ml in RP and 64.37±3.02 in TAC method , showed that the ethanolic extracts of leaves has the highest antioxidant activity and radical scavenging effects especially in TAC method ( IC50: 64.37±3.02 μg/ml).According to the results, there is a positive correlation between antioxidant activity and important secondary metabolites (TP, TF), which can explained and confirm the application of these plants in traditional as an medicine plant.
