چکیده مقاله:

The present research was conducted to investigate whether there was any statistically significant difference in the frequency and type of English Interactional discourse markers used by Persian and Turkish PhD ELT students in their research articles. To this end, eight PhD Turkish and Persian papers from the Journal of Language and Linguistic Studies and Teaching English Language Journal in English were randomly selected. The frequency and nature of each discourse marker was identified, categorized, and analyzed by the researchers. The results based on Hyland's [۱۱] model, indicated that there was a significant difference in the use of the Interactional discourse markers of Hedges, Boosters, Attitude and Engagement markers. No significant difference though was observed for the use of Self-mention markers. The results of this study can offer a number of pedagogical implications for explicit instruction of Interactional metadiscourse markers in research articles.
