The growing energy crisis and the necessity for optimal consumption management have highlighted the urgent need for transforming the traditional structure of power distribution networks. Integrating smart distribution networks with renewable energy sources and smart homes provides a suitable platform for improving energy efficiency, enhancing reliability, and reducing operational costs. This paper focuses on the coordinated planning of Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and Distributed Generation (DG) units within smart distribution networks and proposes an integrated model for optimal placement and sizing of these units. A distinctive feature of the proposed model is the simultaneous consideration of active and reactive power and their impact on voltage stability and power quality in a deregulated electricity market environment. The planning problem is formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming model and optimized using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Simulation results on a test distribution network demonstrate that the coordination between ESS and DG not only reduces losses and improves voltage profiles but also enhances the profitability of distribution companies while maintaining operational security constraints. This model can serve as an effective approach for implementing smart grids within modern cities and smart homes.
