Silica Sulphuric acid has been used for catalyzing a wide variety of reactions ranging from aldolcondensation, acetalization, deacetalization, Sulphonation of aromatic rings, deoxygenation of sulfoxides andso on. The aromatic sulphonic acids could be synthesized using Silica sulphuric acid/NaHSO4 and wet SiO2as a heterogeneous catalyst in good yield. The aim of this research is synthesize of para sulfophenol. Toachieve this goal, Silica Sulphuric acid was prepared by dropwise addition of chlorosulfonic acid to silicagel;and then, phenol, Silica Sulphuric acid, NaHSO4.H2O and wet SiO2 in ethyl acetate was stirred on a magneticstirrer to yield desired product. The reaction was carried out at room temperature. This method providesseveral advantages such as operational simplicity, higher yield, inexpensive materials, safety andenvironment friendly protocol. The product was tested by instrumental analyzing such as FTIR and C NMR.The results show high performances of reaction quantitavely and qualitavely.
