چکیده
The Fifth Generation (۵G) telecommunications technology represents a ground-breaking milestone in wireless communication, offering enhanced connectivity, faster speeds, and transformative applications for industries and daily life. Despite its substantial benefits, the deployment of ۵G has sparked concerns about its environmental impacts, particularly on energy consumption and electromagnetic radiation. This article explores the multifaceted environmental challenges associated with ۵G, focusing on the increased energy demands of its infrastructure, the ecological effects of millimetre waves, and approaches to reducing these negative impacts. The rollout of ۵G networks requires dense infrastructures, such as small cells, that consume significant energy to maintain high-frequency data transmission. Furthermore, the widespread adoption of ۵G-enabled devices within the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem has led to a surge in energy consumption, risking overdependence on traditional power grids. While these challenges exist, ۵G also presents opportunities to improve energy efficiency through smart technologies. Real-time IoT tools can monitor and reduce waste in energy-intensive sectors like transportation and urban development. Similarly, integration with renewable energy smart grids may optimize resource distribution while lowering the reliance on fossil fuel systems. In addition to energy-related concerns, the use of millimetre waves for ۵G transmission raises ecological questions. Evidence suggests that electromagnetic radiation from ۵G could disrupt wildlife habitats, affect the migratory patterns of birds, and harm sensitive ecosystems. Despite these risks, long-term research on the environmental effects of electromagnetic waves remains limited, underscoring the need for further studies to establish safe deployment thresholds.
