The Effect of Vacuum Therapy in the Healing Process of Diabetic Foot Ulcers: A Systematic Review

چکیده

Introduction and purpose: One of the most important complications of diabetes is diabetic foot ulcer, which puts the patient at risk of amputation. One of the common treatments to prevent limb amputation is the use of dressings or appropriate treatment methods. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of vacuum therapy on wound healing in people with diabetic foot ulcers. Materials and methods: A search was made in PubMed, Scopus, Medscape, and Embase databases in ۲۰۲۴ without considering the time limit with the keywords of Vacuum therapy, diabetic foot ulcer, improvement, Nursing and finally ۱۰ articles were examined Findings: In this article, ۱۰ studies were selected based on the research objectives. A review of the literature on vacuum therapy in this profession shows that compared with standard therapy in patients with diabetic foot ulcers, The examined data revealed that vacuum sealing drainage had significantly lower wound healing, duration of therapy and complication rates, as well as higher wound size reduction, compared with standard therapy in patients with diabetic foot ulcers. Also, other results indicated that between the two methods of vacuum therapy and new dressing in the healing of diabetic foot wounds, vacuum therapy compared to new dressings can cause better and faster healing of diabetic foot wounds, and vacuum therapy is a fast and safe method to achieve to a healthy endpoint in diabetic foot ulcers compared to conventional dressings. Discussion and conclusion: Patients with Diabetes, as a vulnerable group, need educational planning and counseling services regarding treatment and recovery. Since nurses are the main individuals who can provide the required services in the field of planning and caring for a patient with Diabetes, they can play a key role in guiding the patient to choose the appropriate treatment for the type of wound at the onset of the treatment process.
