چکیده

The interplay between personality traits and relationship satisfaction across diverse cultural contexts is a pivotal area in cross-cultural psychology, with significant implications for theory and practice. This comprehensive review examines how personality traits, particularly those in the Five-Factor Model (FFM), influence relationship satisfaction in romantic, familial, and parent-child contexts. By integrating Persian and English literature, it synthesizes findings from Iranian studies emphasizing collectivist values and global research highlighting universal and individualist perspectives. Results indicate that conscientiousness and agreeableness are robust predictors of relationship satisfaction in collectivist cultures like Iran, while extraversion is more prominent in individualist societies. Neuroticism consistently shows a negative association across cultures. Cultural dimensions, such as collectivism versus individualism, shape these dynamics, with collectivist societies prioritizing relational harmony and individualist societies valuing personal fulfillment. The review also explores measurement challenges, non-romantic relationships, and clinical applications, identifying gaps like limited Middle Eastern cross-cultural comparisons. It advocates for culturally sensitive models and proposes future research directions, including mixed-methods studies and broader relational contexts, to advance cross-cultural psychology and inform culturally tailored interventions.
