چکیده

Children’s fantasy literature is full of different kinds of proper names which can be attributed to either things or people and in themselves have meanings that their translation can help the target language young readers to understand that story or fiction better. The present study aims at investigating how the proper names in fantasy book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone(Rowling, 1997) are dealt with by two Persian translators. In other words, what strategies the Persian translators may use in the case of these names. For this purpose, the theoretical framework of Fernandes (2006) is used in which ten procedures are proposed to deal with proper nouns in children’s fantasy literature. The results show that different translators would treat with different kinds of proper names in various ways and would use different strategies. It is found that the dominant strategy among the Persian translators is to transcribe these kinds of names
