Healthy and appropriate nutrition is one of the main factors of body health, including the health of the oral cavity. This is especially important in children because they have an urgent and constant need for healthy nutrition for their growth and development. Establishing proper eating habits from the beginning of life not only improves the physical growth and development of the child, but also provides a favorable environment for the optimal health of the oral cavity with the health of the gum tissue and oral hygiene of the child. Materials and methods: In this descriptive study, ۲۰۰ children in preschool age (۱۰۰ boys and ۱۰۰ girls) ۴ to ۶.۵ years old at the kindergarten level Private schools in Tehran were studied cross-sectionally and randomly in the academic year ۲۰۲۳-۲۰۲۴. The child's diet was studied in different meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and breakfast) including groups of dairy products, proteins, vegetables, fruits, grains, and other foods. PMA and OHIS indexes were used to check the gum health and oral hygiene. After collecting data, the data was analyzed and calculated using SPSS software, Chi-square tests, and Kendall's correlation coefficient. Findings: - Almost all children (۹۶.۸%) eat snacks between their main meals. They did - No relationship was found between the type of diet and oral hygiene and gum health status. - The amount of consumption of dairy products, fruits, vegetables, and snacks did not affect oral hygiene and gum health status - there was no relationship between the time of consuming snacks and sweets and oral hygiene and gum health status Conclusion: Poor oral hygiene is the cause of gum and periodontal diseases. The effect of diet on tooth decay is known, but its effect on oral health and gum health is not completely known. In the present study, there was no significant relationship between gum health and oral hygiene with diet in preschool children.
