چکیده

Background: Spontaneous splenic rupture (SSR) is an uncommon medical emergency, often associated with underlying conditions such as infections, malignancies, or trauma. However, it can rarely occur in healthy individuals, making its diagnosis and management challenging. Case Presentation: We present the case of a ۲۸-year-old previously healthy male who presented to the Emergency Department of Bahman Hospital, Tehran, with sudden onset of severe left upper quadrant abdominal pain, hypotension, and signs of hypovolemic shock. Imaging studies, including an abdominal ultrasound and CT scan, confirmed splenic rupture without any apparent cause. Emergency laparotomy was performed, revealing significant hemoperitoneum and a ruptured spleen. Splenectomy was carried out successfully. Postoperative recovery was uneventful, and the patient was discharged in stable condition with proper vaccinations and follow-up instructions. Discussion: Spontaneous splenic rupture in healthy individuals is rare, with few cases reported in the literature. This case highlights the importance of considering SSR in the differential diagnosis of acute abdominal pain, especially in the absence of trauma. Early diagnosis and prompt surgical intervention are critical to avoid life-threatening complications. Conclusion: This case underscores the need for heightened clinical awareness of SSR as a potential cause of acute abdomen in healthy individuals. Timely intervention and a multidisciplinary approach can ensure favorable outcomes.
