چکیده
Delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and muscle damage following exercise is a common issue, especially after an unaccustomed resistance exercise in untrained individuals. Nutrition plays a vital role in controlling inflammation and increasing blood flow to muscles, which can influence muscle damage. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of consuming beetroot juice and ibuprofen before exercise on muscle damage markers following an eccentric resistance exercise session. The participants in this study were ۲۴ untrained young women (ages ۲۰ to ۳۴) who were randomly divided into two groups: beetroot juice (n=۱۲) and ibuprofen (n=۱۲). The beetroot juice group consumed ۴.۵ ml/kg of natural beetroot juice approximately ۱۵۰ minutes before the exercise session, while the ibuprofen group received ۳۰ mg of ibuprofen in three doses ۲۴ hours before the exercise. Both groups performed resistance exercises consisting of six upper and lower body movements in ۳ sets of ۱۵-۲۰ repetitions at ۶۰-۷۰% of their maximum strength. After the session, maximum strength tests and blood samples were taken from the participants' brachial veins, and levels of creatine kinase (CK) and myoglobin, as indicators of muscle damage, were measured. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA with SPSS version ۲۱ at a significance level of p ≤ ۰.۰۵.The results showed that although serum levels of CK and myoglobin significantly increased in both groups after the exercise session (p=۰.۰۰۰۱), there was no significant difference between the groups (p=۰.۰۹۴ and p=۰.۲۱۱). However, plasma interleukin-۶ (IL-۶) concentration significantly increased in the beetroot juice group, while it showed a minimal change in the ibuprofen group (p=۰.۰۰۱). These results suggest that neither beetroot juice nor ibuprofen can significantly reduce muscle damage induced by resistance exercise in untrained young women, but ibuprofen may slightly reduce exercise-induced inflammation.کلیدواژه ها
