چکیده

This article explores the sustainable potential of vernacular materials-stone, wood, and adobe-in the context of Iran's diverse climatic regions. By examining the characteristics, traditional uses, and modern adaptations of these materials, the study highlights their enduring relevance in contemporary architecture. Stone, known for its durability and thermal mass, is primarily used in Iran’s mountainous regions, where it supports energy efficiency and long-term sustainability. Wood, with its renewability and flexibility, is integral to the northern regions, where advances in engineered wood products and sustainable forestry practices enhance its applicability. Adobe, widely used in Iran's extensive arid and semi-arid regions, excels in thermal performance and low environmental impact, making it a cornerstone of sustainable construction in these areas. The integration of these vernacular materials with modern building technologies has revitalized their use, offering significant opportunities to reduce environmental footprints, preserve cultural heritage, and create aesthetically pleasing, environmentally responsible structures. This article concludes by advocating for continued innovation, education, and policy support to further harness the sustainable potential of these traditional materials in modern architecture.
