A Sensitivity Analysis on Choosing H۲O as a Progress Variable in CH۴/Air PremixedCombustion Using FGM

چکیده

To study how the selection of progress variable in flamelet-generated manifolds (FGM) affects on prediction of flame front, a steady laminar premixed flame is studied. Three different progress variables are used to retrieve data from ۱D FGM. The ۱D FGM has been constructed based on neglecting differential and preferential effects. The progress variables are CO۲ and H۲O. Simulations were separately performed by using the aforementioned progress variables and the prediction of the flame front were compared. It is shown that the simulation based on CO۲ as progress variable predicts flame shape and structure. However, using H۲O as the progress variable results in discrepancies in flame structure, especially in the post-flame region. A sensitivity analysis shows that H۲O does not show a monotonic behavior in the reaction zone, which renders it inappropriate as a progress variable choice.
