Dual nanocomposites based on metal sulfide nanomaterials with a narrow band gap are favorable candidates for future optoelectronic applications and ionizing ray sensors. In this study, novel silver doped zinc sulfide/ cadmium sulfide (ZnS/CdS: Ag) nanocomposites were prepared by a cost-effective solvothermal method. For the first time, the radiation response of prepared nanocomposite was studied using ۲۴۱Am alpha source and ion beam induced luminescence (IBIL) measurement. ZnS/CdS: Ag nanocomposite exhibited strong light emission in the blue-green range at room temperature. Under alpha irradiation, the ZnS/CdS: Ag nanocomposite showed excellent sensitivity when compared to pure ZnS or CdS. FESEM images showed a uniform distribution of semi-spherical and rod nanoparticles with an average particle size of ۱۸۰ nm. XRD, and EDX results indicated characteristic peaks of ZnS, CdS, and related elements in the nanocomposite. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the presence of several groups in the nanocomposite. Investigations indicated that the optical quality of the ZnS/CdS: Ag nanocomposite was improved when compared with pure ZnS and CdS. According to the obtained results, it is anticipated that ZnS/CdS: Ag nanocomposite would hold suitable potential for applications in optoelectronic devices and detection.
