Photocatalytic degradation is becoming an increasingly attractive method for addressing environmental remediation challenges. In this work, pure ZnS, CdS, and ZnS/CdS heterostructure nanocomposites with premier photocatalyst efficiency were synthesized via a simple co-precipitation method followed by a solvothermal procedure. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) absorbance measurement techniques were employed to characterize the structural, morphological, and optical properties. According to the XRD results, ZnS/CdS nanocomposites with an average crystallite size in the range of ۱۵-۲۰ nm were formed. The optical band gap ranging from ۴.۴ eV to ۵.۳ eV was obtained by the UV-Vis measurement. The photocatalytic performance of the ZnS/CdS heterostructure nanocomposites in the degradation of the methylene blue (MB) dyes under UVA light was evaluated. The synthesized ZnS/CdS nanocomposite showed a high decolorization efficiency in a short time (۹۹%) in just ۵ min, under UVA irradiation. This simple approach can be upscaled for industrial use.
