The present work investigates the removal of Cu (II) ions from aqueous solutions by Geleh Sar Shor (shampoo clay) as a new natural adsorbent materialin a batch system. Adsorption of metal ions by clay minerals is a complex procedure controlled by a number of environmental variables. Afterpreconcentration step, atomic absorption spectrometry was used for the determination Cu(II) ions. Limits of detection based on three times thestandard deviation (3Sb) (n=10) obtained under optimum conditions. The interactions of Cu(II) ions with this clay were rapid and equilibrium batchprocess was attained very fast. Therefore, determination of copper ions by the Geleh Sar Shor is efficient, reproducible, rapid and reliable in diverse real samples.
