چکیده

Images represent a vital component of human communication and comprehension, as images are often one of the first types of information utilized in multiple intelligence endeavors. In particular, the rapid advancements in computing technology have rapidly grown the interests and utilization of image processing techniques. This paper investigates artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to improve image processing techniques to yield images that demonstrate better information than image processing methods. One area of interest to examine is image segmentation. Image segmentation is the examination of images and dividing the images into contiguous regions based on certain features of regions, i.e. previous examples. The paper will examine the area and more specifically the use of combinatorial optimization to achieve improvements in segmentation. The paper will introduce AI algorithms as viable options for combinatorial optimization problems. With AI solving optimization problems, AI may further assist in interpreting more ambiguous visual information. Furthermore, the use of AI for image processing will allow for near-real time applications and automated analysis which will allow for expanded use of image processing techniques. When considering the combination of both AI and image processing, many openings can be accounted for to better information yield visual representations. Ultimately, it is hoped that readers will gain a better conceptualization of how AI can expand the efficiency and accuracy of AI image processing.
