چکیده

Thermal protection systems (TPS) play an important role in protecting spacecraft from the extremeheat of re-entry into the atmosphere. With increasing use for reusable launch vehicles (RLVs) andnew goals of interplanetary travel, the development of efficient and cost-effective TPS is even moreimportant. In this research, a new method was designed to make light thermal insulation usingamorphous porous carbon tiles. These tiles are covered with Tetraethyl Orthosilicate after chemicalmodification using sol-gel method. The results show that the new method of producing a thermalshield with a porous structure, in addition to the excellent properties of light weight, low heattransfer and high resistance to oxidation and erosion. According to the obtained properties, it can besaid that this type of thermal insulation can have potential applications in the field of thermalinsulation such as space shuttles and thermal protection materials for space carriers.
