Translating Medical Texts: Procedures Employed by Professional M.A. Translation Students

چکیده
This paper presents the findings of a descriptive study designed to investigate the translation procedures used among MA students majoring in translation at Yarmouk University, Jordan, when translating medical texts from English to Arabic for laypeople. Using a constructivist philosophical approach, primary data have been collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with ten professional students completing their MA training. The interviews were analyzed using Braun and Clark’s (۲۰۰۶) thematic analytic approach through the codification process. Data analysis shows that four key themes were developed by students. This study introduces a cognitive model for translating medical texts through integrating Skopos theory and Vinay and Darbelnet's model with practice, which is essential for anyone planning a career in medical translation. The findings demonstrate that the employed translation procedures for medical texts enhance students' competence and knowledge, offering crucial steps to help students develop advanced translation skills and improve their performance in medical translation.کلیدواژه ها
