چکیده
The global aging population faces a rising burden of chronic inflammation, linked to variousage-related diseases like cancer, Alzheimer's, and diabetes. This study explores the potentialof the Mediterranean diet as a strategy to combat chronic inflammation and improve qualityof life in older adults. Methods: A literature review was conducted using Google Scholar and PubMed databases, searching for studies investigating the anti-inflammatory effects of the Mediterranean diet.Findings: Analysis of the studies revealed that the Mediterranean diet's rich composition ofmicronutrients and macronutrients, including fiber, polyphenols, unsaturated fatty acids, andvitamin C, possesses potent anti-inflammatory properties. These components worksynergistically to:Modulate gut microbiota composition and enhance digestive efficiency (fiber).Exert antioxidant effects, inhibit harmful molecule production, and influence inflammatorysignaling pathways (polyphenols).Reduce oxidative stress and strengthen cellular defenses (unsaturated fatty acids).Boost the immune system, decrease inflammatory factors, and mitigate oxidative stress(vitamin C).Conclusion: The findings suggest that adopting a Mediterranean diet can significantlycontribute to extending lifespan and enhancing the quality of life for older adults byeffectively managing chronic inflammation and potentially reducing the risk of associatedage-related diseases.کلیدواژه ها
