چکیده

Shear walls are the most important load-carrying elements in masonry structures. Owing to the fact that failure of the member might directly be followed by collapse of the structure, a reliable design of masonry walls subjected to in-plane shear is desired. Consistently, researchers are doing experiments, numerical and analytical investigations to promote the regulation of a reliable design. In Germany the masonry design code has modified to take into account the latest research result.In this paper we explain recent effort which has done in Germany and discuss the design concepts of the code; and then present the section of shear design in masonry code E DIN 1053-13 which comprise the new finding. Exemplary unreinforced masonry walls will be designed according to the aforementioned code and the result will be compared with the other curent codes.In second part we explain the reliability concept in design of a shear wall and target reliability values which are proposed in currently applicable standards. The objective of this part is applying the probabilistic Monte Carlo method to assess the reliability index of an unreinforced masonry wall subjected to in-plane shear load designed by German code E DIN 1053 13. In the last step, the obtained reliability indices will be assessed by recommended values for the target reliability.
