چکیده

This research paper explores the story of proliferation since the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in ۱۹۴۵. It explores how this proliferation has impacted politics, security dynamics, and historical rivalries. The focus is on understanding the factors that influenced states' decisions to develop capabilities, such as accessing fissile material, acquiring knowledge and technology, and their treaty status. The study also highlights the domino effect observed in proliferation, which was initiated by the United States' demonstration of power and driven by nations seeking power, security, and historical grievances. Furthermore, it critically examines the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its effectiveness in curbing proliferation, considering the challenges that have emerged since the end of the Cold War. The paper also discusses how nuclear weapons have significantly impacted power dynamics and how deterrence strategies have evolved from the Cold War era to times. It emphasizes the need to reassess deterrence mechanisms in light of threats and non-state actors. Lastly, it introduces the concept of a culture shaped by sociopolitical contexts to provide a nuanced understanding of states' strategic behaviors within the realm of nuclear weapons.
