Career success in medical professions

Abstract Introduction: Career success is an important issue in human resources management, but this concept was neglected in the medical professions. The aim of this study was to review the existing literature in the case of career success indicators in medical professions. Methods: This study was conducted as a systematic review. Career success, occupational success, objective career success, subjective career success, objective occupational success, subjective occupational success, and also medical, paramedical, radiology, nursing, anesthesia, physiotherapist and occupational therapist were searched as Persian keywords in SID, Magiran and Iranmedex databases and their English forms were searched in Google scholar, Elsevier and PubMed databases. These three databases were selected for their comprehensiveness and free access to full-text articles. Hand searching of Google and unpublished journals was done at the end, too. All eligible articles from ۲۰۰۰ onwards were assessed. At last data were classified, summarized and analyzed. Results: ۷ from ۲۴۰ articles were finally included in the study. Research community in the most of them (n=۶) were doctors and nurses. Objective career success was assessed mainly. There was not found specified and dedicated instrument in this case. Discussion and Conclusion: according to the results the important concept of career success and its components should be redefined for medical professions.
